East Wall
Stabilisation
Project

In January 2023 St. Peter's had a detailed survey carried out that revealed an issue with the east wall of the church – the one with the large stained-glass windows. The outward forces from the central and south arches were badly resolved in the wall, resulting in a very slow and gradual movement in the east wall (estimated at 150mm over the past 150 years). The Conservation Engineer who carried out the survey recommended a remedial plan of action, which the church agreed to. See Press Release for more details.

MARCH 2025 UPDATE
Repairs are nearing completion!

St Peter’s Church looks transformed internally with the removal of the temporary barriers and straps. We are so grateful to our grant providers without whom these extensive works would not have been possible. These are UKSPF (UK Shared Prosperity Fund) and National Churches Trust. We are also very grateful to Ursula Keyes Trust who have provided funding for window guards for our beautiful stained glass windows.
